Do I have a sleeping disorder?

Question by debani: Do I have a sleeping disorder? The earlier I sleep the more tired I am, and I can't dream, the last time I dreamed was about 6 months ago. Do I have some sort of sleeping disorder

Best answer:

Answer by bandaid_46
You may have a physical disorder, namely sleep apnea. You should have it checked out. Your doc can order an exam in a local sleep clinic where they can monitor your sleeping. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, they can treat it with CPAP [Continuous Positive Air Pressure] to keep your airways open as you sleep. Good luck and God bless.

sleep apnea?

Question by doc_0074: sleep apnea? what are the signs and eventually, the effects of sleep apnea? i sometimes wake up from my sleep coughing vigoriously...like im choking

Best answer:

Answer by ThePerfectStranger
Snoring badly and drowsy all day due to lack of proper rest. It is not healthy for your body to not get enough sleep. You are vulnerable to heart attacks. See a doctor and check into the sleep test. The test will tell how bad the apnea is.

Im even starting to have restless leg syndrome so the disorders are worsening They have given me trazadone and upped the dose 3 times with no help and all the non medicinal remedies are not helping. The one thing the doctors were SURE would work is set bed times but insomnia prevents me from getting to sleep on time at night and hypersomnia presents me from getting up at the right time. I get enough exericese i run for 45 minutes without stopping almost everyday of the week. ( im on the cross country team )

Best answer:

Answer by Florida Girl
No, it's called not eating right, and not enough exercise. Edit: Do you know what foods you eat determine how well you sleep? It's a proven study. Eat more healthy foods. Try staying up later (going to bed at 10:30) and then waking up. The reason your tired all the time is because you are getting too much sleep... if you sleep too much your body will feel tired.

about snoring?

Question by nascar7007: about snoring? I noticed I have begun snoring and it is becoming louder and louder..how do I stop it?

Best answer:

Answer by poorsadcow
The pharmacist should be able to recommend something to alleviate the problem. You can help yourself by avoiding alcohol before bedtime and cutting back on cigarettes if you are a smoker. Also, being overweight doesn/t help. If you snore so loud you wake yourself up you will eventually begin to suffer from fatigue during the day. You could even develop a condition called sleep apnoea which means you briefly stop breathing while asleep. People often laugh at snorers but its no laughing matter really. Get yourself along to a pharmacy and good luck!

Sleeping disorders?

Question by Kristen: Sleeping disorders? Im not sure if this is a sleeping disorder or not but it happens about every 2 nights or so. When I go to sleep i will be in the middle of a dream but im fully aware that im sleeping and it is like im awake and then a tingly feeling goes all across my head and i go completely numb and I know im awake but i cant get my eyes to open and I try to move my arms and legs but they wont go. After a little time im always able to open my eyes and get my body to move. is this anything I should worry about?

Best answer:

Answer by kris
It sounds like sleep paralysis. My boyfriend used to get that a couple times a month for several years, and this has happened to me a couple times and can be very scary, but since it's not recurring we didn't do anything about it. Sleep paralysis can be present in various sleep disorders including narcolepsy, so if you have other symptoms like excessive daytime sleepiness you might want to see your doctor to get that evaluated, get a sleep study, etc.

Q&A: What is Deep Sleep Disorder?

Question by lilrockchic2001: What is Deep Sleep Disorder? My boyfriend is terrible at getting up on time or wakening up! He can stay up to all hours of the morning and seen him waken up at 9am and go to bed at 6am. The problem is, when his alarm sounds, he sleeps through it, its a very loud alarm and to test how bad his sleeping is, i have actually placed the sounding alarm on his ear (cause i was getting pissed off by this point of him not waking up) and he slept through it. i have seen him sleep through a fire alarm and today he slept through his mobile, housephone, buzzer and chapping. Is this ACTUALLY a disorder, i have never met someone who can sleep through all this and wake up as if nothing had happened, its actually really scary at times. Sadly not typo! he has woken up at 9am and then not gone to bed till nearly 24 hours at 6am! :|

Best answer:

Answer by Celina
Is it possible he is hard of hearing? I'm sure he must be after you putting the alarm on his hear, ha! (just kidding) But anyway, you say he sometimes goes to sleep at 6am and wakes up at 9am? Or is that a typo and 6am is meant to be 6pm? If this is true, then it's rather normal to be in a deep sleep after not having much sleep the night before. I sleep through my alarm because of that! Yes, Deep Sleep Disorder is real.. it's a bunch of related sleeping disorders and can be caused by environmental or emotional changes

Q&A: what is the onset of sleep apnea?

Question by Al: what is the onset of sleep apnea? Hi, Does anyone know how Sleep Apnea develops? Can it hit you even if you used to be a good sleeper. Or does it begin the moment you are born? Recently I have developed some terrible insomnia, for the past 2 months I have slept an average of 3-4 hours a night. Sometimes I lay in bed for hours just to wake up groggy and not refreshed. It almost feels like I was day dreaming all night. I have to take a xanax just to fall alseep. Anyways can this be a sign of Sleep Apnea? My ex GF said I used to snore. I’m a very healthy 24 year old male.

Possible Sleep Disorder?

Question by Tabitha: Possible Sleep Disorder? Is there a name for a mental condition characterized by dreams about loved ones dying, suicide, and other tragedies regardless of foods eaten or not eaten before bed, time of month, etc? I mean a condition that affects only the dreams- dreams similar to something a depressed person would have, but the person is not depressed?

Best answer:

Answer by Alisa Lagrange
No there is no sleep disorder like that. Most sleep disorders relate to waking/sleeping patterns, abnormal sleep rhythms and abnormal sleep activities. The only sleep disorder that involves dreams are Night Terrors. But the definition of a night terror involves being conscious but unaware, and a lack of memory of the event. Since you remember what you dream, it can't be that. Not much is known about why we dream, and what triggers bad dreams; but sometimes stress, overwork, worry or watching violent movies etc can cause bad dreams. Some people also think we express our basic fears in our dreams. So if you fear losing a family member or experiencing a tragedy, then maybe it's coming out in what you dream.
