panic/anxiety disorder from sleep apnea?

Question by Edgar: panic/anxiety disorder from sleep apnea? My doctor gave me this machine that I am suppose to have on when I sleep and I have to return it to him. I told him my random breathing interruption that I have and how it game me all this anxiety and panic disorder, no asthma, perfect healthy lungs, so he wants me to do this test and also a test to measure my breathing when I run and walk. anyways, does anyone know what sleep apnea is and if it can cause panic and anxiety, my doctor said that it always causes personality changes from an angry person to an extremely panic person and that it is very common. Im 19 male and have been having this shortness of breath for about 2 years now and its hell. But i never wake up in the middle of the night or anything, only 1 time of these 2 years

Well sleep apnea is a condition where you stop breathing for a short period of time in your sleep and it doesn't always wake you up. Some people it may, but I have seem my mom do it before and I think my husband saw me do it and it scared him half to death. Sleep apnea can cause personality changes, but usually panic and anxiety is what causes sleep apnea. Hope this helps a little. You can google sleep apnea and see if there are any home treatments that you could try. I don't have any solutions. Mine doesn't bug me. My mom had to buy a breathing mask and use it at night. My dad made her stop because it was too loud for him to sleep. I liked it when I still lived at home because then I couldn't hear him snore throughout the house at night.

Does anyone else have sleep apnea?

Question by Forever: Does anyone else have sleep apnea? Last night I stopped breathing and woke up gasping for air. I couldnt't fall back to sleep. This hasnt happened in awhile, the last time was probably last year. I got tested for this a few years back and the lab said that i have this condition. I'm wondering if i should tell my family that i love each of them in case something happens to me, yet I don't want to tell them because I don't want to make them worried.

If it has been confirmed through the lab that you do indeed have sleep apnea than you can get a prescription for a C-pap machine to wear at night. It forces air into your airways to keep them open. This way you are not oxygen deprived and you don't have to worry about sleep apnea related death.

Heavy heartbeat? Sleep Apnea?

Question by fugitive2007: Heavy heartbeat? Sleep Apnea? For the past year or so I have gotten sleep apnea symptoms every once in a while. Lately I have gotten them maybe once or twice a week just keeping me awake at night at extra hour while I try not to gasp for air every time I try to sleep. Lately, mainly last night. I had it horribly and every time I tried to fall asleep I would get it bad and end up gasping for air. I finally fell asleep but today I have a much heavier heart beat than usual and possibly irregular heart beat? Im not to sure bout having an irregular heart beat as i dont know what that sounds like. I am going into the doctors Wednesday but I am wondering if this heavy heart beat is just me nervous and my anxiety kicking in or something serious?

Okay well sleep apnea is and can be a very serious problem, If you are over weight that can have alot to do with it and i suggest you get on a healthy diet asap! This will help you out so much. Also it could just be that you are falling to deep into a sleep and you think your not breathing, Dose this happen when you think about it before you go to bed? If so this is not sleep apnea this is a panic attack which would also explain the heavy heart beat. I am not a doctor so I cant guarentee anything, I would say that you are fine, when you dont think about it and it dosent happen that means that it is just your nerves and fear that is causing this. Just make sure you do see your Doctor on wenseday just to okay this. Good luck and try not to worrie about it because all that will do is make you feel worse.

Am I suffering from a sleep disorder?

Question by sweetpea2693: Am I suffering from a sleep disorder? After school, I usually take a nap for about 2-3 hours and can't fall asleep until about 12-1 in the morning. Every day when I get up to go to school I feel tired and overwhelmed throughout the day. On my weekends, I also spend my free time taking naps in the afternoon. Is this a sleep disorder or are my sleeping habit just off balance?

You don't exactly have a sleeping disorder. You can take two Nyquil. You can take three Benedral.. Or you can start staying awake through the whole day.. After that you'll be able to sleep easier.

Q&A: Are there any new type CPAP masks (for sleep apnea)?

Question by Bill D: Are there any new type CPAP masks (for sleep apnea)? For those of us with sleep apnea its very hard to obtain info on new apnea products.

Best answer:

Answer by 3B69
I have Sleep Apnea, but I depend on my Dr., who also has Sleep Apnea, to suggest what masks to use. We just got done fitting me for a new mask and after 9 years I am finally getting a new machine, with warm air mist. Here is the web link the national sleep apnea organization. They have a forum that can possibly answer any specific questions you may have. http://www.sleepapnea.org/ And here is the google search. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGIH,GGIH:2006-46,GGIH:en&q=sleep+apnea
